Who I Am. What I Stand For.
I’m Thomas West. I’m a husband, a father of four, an Army veteran, and a public servant who believes that leadership should start with love and end with results.
My life isn’t defined by titles. It’s defined by the people I serve, the values I carry, and the future I want to help build, especially for the next generation. I head to Planning Commission meetings while my kids are finishing their homework, because serving our community means showing up even when it’s hard. I leave School Board meetings knowing that every policy we pass could shape someone’s future. I do this work because it’s personal. Because the stakes are too high to sit this one out.
I believe politics should be about people, not power plays. I believe every community, no matter how rural or overlooked, deserves bold ideas, honest leadership, and a government that works for everyone.
What I Stand For
🟢 Fairness
Everyone deserves a fair shot. That means strong public schools, affordable housing, equitable health care, and wages that let working families actually get ahead, not just get by. It means showing up for LGBTQIA+ Vermonters, Black and Brown neighbors, new Americans, and people living with disabilities. Not just when it’s easy, but when it’s necessary.
🟢 Belonging
I’m raising a multiracial, queer-affirming, adoptive family in Southern Vermont. I know what it feels like to be included and what it feels like to be ignored. I believe every person should see themselves reflected in their community’s priorities, its policies, and its leadership. Belonging is not a buzzword. It is a lifeline.
🟢 Stewardship
Leadership means taking care of what matters. I believe in protecting what’s working, fixing what’s broken, and always putting people before politics. Whether I’m voting on a school budget or rethinking our local infrastructure, I carry the weight of these choices with care, humility, and purpose. That is what real public service demands.
I’m not in this to make a name. I’m in it to make a difference because the work is too important to wait.
If you believe leadership should be grounded, values driven, and focused on what matters most, I hope you’ll join me.
